Deep Dialogue

Welcome to the Deep Dialogue page, where Participants in the Conversation share their views on the importance and nature of interfaith dialogue and related issues, and also post news items. Deep Dialogue recognizes that we can do more together, and do so better, when we provide opportunity to talk about the things that have deepest meaning for us. We believe that our desires to contribute to the well-being of all people come from the place where our values and beliefs reside, not from a superficial desire to get along with others. When we are able to share those things that hold deep meaning for us, we not only promote better understanding but we are also able to better anticipate where and how we can work better together.

Guest blog posts are welcome (send requests to info@interfaithconversation.ca). Please note that views expressed in blog posts written by a Conversation Participant reflect their own views, not those of the Canadian Interfaith Conversation as a whole.

The Manitoba Multifaith Council joins the global chorus of horror and dismay at the recent waves of violence perpetrated by some accounts and to some perspectives attributable to the religious impulse, in the immolation of 19 Yazidi women by the forces of Daesh (IS) in early June and the shootings in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of June 12.

On June 14, 2016, representatives from various faith communities including the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, the Canadian Conference for Catholic Bishops, the Canadian Council of Imams, and The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, held a joint press conference to call on Canada’s elected officials to support a national palliative care strategy and to raise awareness of gaps in palliative care.

The Canadian Council of Imams (CCI) strongly condemns the mass shooting in Orlando this morning. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families. We applaud the efforts of first responders in treating the wounded and injured and call on authorities to bring anyone involved in this terrible crime to justice.

The Har Zion Temple and Imam Mahdi Islamic Centre sit side by side in Thornhill, even sharing a parking lot.  Their current refugee sponsorship project, however, brings them closer than ever.

When the synagogue was interested in sponsoring refugees, it contacted the mosque, which was also considering refugee sponsorship.  The houses of worship partnered in the sponsorship process and are now trying to raise a joint target of $60,000.
