Redesigning the Tree of Life: Synthetic Biology and the Future of Food

From November 2-4, 2017 in Toronto, the Canadian Council of Churches will be gathering to learn from expert presentations, build relationships, and organize for advocacy. Join us as we eat together, reflect together, learn together, and plan together. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit redesigningthetreeoflife.eventbrite.ca.

This event is a participatory learning conference, informed by expert presentations, with time to build the relationships and shared learning that make future shared work possible. It is designed to provide an opportunity to share and ground our work in theological and ethical reflection; build relationships for future work; learn about the connections across synthetic biology, the future of food, and sustainable agriculture; and organize for advocacy and public engagement at, among others, the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the Committee on World Food Security, and the Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, on the evening of November 3rd from 7-9 p.m., we have a free event open to the public called Redesigning Life: Synthetic Biology, New Genetic Engineering and Ethics. It will be held at the YWCA Toronto at 87 Elm Street, and all are welcome. This event features Drew Endy, Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University, and Jim Thomas, Technology Critic, Co-Executive Director of ETC Group, along with dynamic commentators.
